The word Gita literally means "song". Religious leaders and scholars have interpreted the word Bhagavad in a number of ways. Accordingly, the title has been interpreted as "the word of God", "the words of the Lord", "the Divine Song", and "Celestial Song". In India, there are several scriptures are known as “Gita” but most popular is known as in its Sanskrit name is as Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, श्रीमद् भगवद् गीता (the latter two words often written as a single word भगवद्गीता), where the Shrimad prefix is used to denote a high degree of respect.

सर्वोपनिषदो गावो दोग्धा गोपालनन्दनः

पार्थो वत्सः सुधीर्भोक्ता दुग्धं गीतामृतं महत् ॥

Bhagavad Gita is the essence of Upanishads. It is like a cow whom Shri Krishna milks. Arjuna is like a calf. The learned devotees are drinking the ambrosial milk of Bhagavad Gita. In addition to shri Bhagvad Gita there are some other pious scriptures known as “Gita” including:
Guru Gita: In Guru Gita, lord Shiva and his consort, Parvati, sing about the significance of a guru for spiritual growth in the "Skanda Purana."
Ashtavakra Gita: In this Pious Scripture, the sage Ashtavakra teaches the nature of the soul and Self-realisation to King Janaka.
Uttara Gita: Uttara Gita is a sequel to the Bhagavad Gita which resumes the discussion between Krishna and Arjuna after the war of Mahabharat.
Rishabha Gita: In Rishabha GIta, Rishabha, the guru, discusses the purpose of human life and the path to freedom to his offspring.
Jivanmukta Gita: In Jivanmukta Gita, Dattatreya, the sage, explains the nature of the realised soul, or jivanmukta.
Devi Bhagvad Gita: Devi Gita presents the divine feminine as the universe's powerful creator and describes Bhakti yoga.
